Glenside’s fun and funky art coffeehouse opens its doors one night a month for dinner and entertainment. Much as the author loves Starbuck's, this isn't your typical corporate coffeehouse. Elcy's recalls the heydays of those 1960s establishments set up by creative, hands-on entrepreneurs in repurposed buildings, and like them it has a decor constructed of thrift shop finds, the odd guitar-strumming musician, walls hung with local artwork, and food homemade from local ingredients. Last Friday we enjoyed a salad, "Pop-Pop's" vegetable lasagna, and bread for around $11, plus tax and gratuities while we listened to Ronnie Ray, of the BlueLight Infinity, rehearse his upcoming gig at The World Cafe, accompanied by random SEPTA orchestrations. (Pop-Pop, Ronnie Ray, and co-owner Lisa Ritter are all related...is Glenside a small town, or what?)
